Mr P Donnelly

Woodhey has two dedicated teaching rooms for Drama that are equipped with blackout blinds, lighting and sound facilities. We also have props and costumes to enhance the learning experience in the department. Larger performances take place in the school hall which is equipped with a professional lighting and sound system.

Curriculum impact

There’s more to Drama than opening nights, make up and learning your lines!

From Year 7 we offer curriculum Drama alongside an extensive enrichment and extra-curricular programme of clubs, workshops and theatre visits. Drama is a creative subject, developing skills in performance, communication, technical aspects, direction, design and analysis. We aim to encourage students to fulfil their potential by working hard in lessons and rehearsals. As a department we have regular performances to celebrate the talent of Woodhey students.

At Key Stage 3 we believe it is important for students to experience a range of drama skills and explore a variety of topics. Our KS3 curriculum combines the skills of Creating, Performing and Evaluating.

Whether you are a budding actor, director or, theatre technician or intending to follow a career where empathy, communication and presentation skills will be important, you might be interested in taking the subject further at KS4. We have a large number of students at Woodhey who choose to take Drama GCSE or Performing Arts Technical GCSE.
