As part of their commitment to the Woodhey Pledge, Year 8 have taken meaningful action to improve global sanitation by twinning two of the school’s toilet blocks with facilities in Mozambique and Malawi through the brilliant initiative Toilet Twinning - offering dignity, safety, and better health to those in need.
What is Toilet Twinning?
Toilet Twinning is a charity campaign that helps fund clean water, safe sanitation, and hygiene education in some of the world’s poorest communities. By “twinning” your toilet with one overseas, you donate towards building a toilet and the supporting of long-term sanitation projects in areas that need them most. It’s a simple, powerful way to support health, dignity, and change lives - one toilet at a time. You can read more about the initiative by visiting https://dev-toilettwinning.digitalstorm.co.uk/. Year 8 are very proud to be a part of this project.
Why have Year 8 chosen to support this project?
This project directly supports the community strand of the Woodhey Pledge, encouraging students to make a positive difference in the world beyond their own. This is something Year 8 are particularly passionate about as throughout their time at Woodhey they have been learning about how to demonstrate our core values of respect and excellence in the wider world.
Furthermore, this initiative supports our Excellence in Personal Development Award, which champions UNESCO’s drive to teach global citizenship skills to children and young people.
In championing sanitation equality, Year 8 have acted with compassion and purpose and have had a meaningful impact on those who are less fortunate than us. Students and staff should look out over the coming weeks for our new Toilet Twinning certificates, proudly displayed outside the twinned facilities; reminders that small acts can have a big impact.
Mrs Sharp, Mr McMahon and the Year 8 form tutors would like to say a big well done to Year 8 students for choosing to flush away injustice and demonstrate what it means to be responsible, informed global citizens.
