Over the past four weeks, Woodhey High School has proudly hosted a series of enhanced transition sessions aimed at supporting incoming students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) or those experiencing heightened anxiety as they prepare to join the Woodhey community.
These carefully planned sessions welcomed small groups of pupils into school to help ease their move to secondary education. During the visits, students took part in a range of engaging activities including taster lessons in science and maths, creative tasks such as making mythical clay creatures and planting seeds, and personalised tours of the school site.
Crucially, students had the chance to meet some of the key staff who will be supporting them in September, including members of our dedicated SEND team. They were also guided and encouraged by current students from Years 7, 8 and 9, who acted as mentors and role models throughout the programme.
The sessions not only helped students become more familiar with the school environment but also gave them the opportunity to ask questions, build new friendships and begin feeling part of the Woodhey family. Feedback from students has been overwhelmingly positive:
“They made me feel very welcoming.”
“It made it feel less chaotic.”
“I feel very confident now because I came here.”
“They prepared me for Woodhey.”
These enhanced transitions reflect Woodhey’s ongoing commitment to supporting every student to achieve their best in a safe, inclusive and nurturing environment. We look forward to welcoming all our new students in September and continuing their journey of success at Woodhey High School.
